V4 API equivalent of “Duplicate Project” in the web app

,

We’re building an internal project-setup tool using the Frame.io V4 API. Our normal workflow uses the web app’s “Duplicate Project” action on a project named 0000_TEMPLATE, usually without copying assets.

What is the supported V4 API equivalent of “Duplicate Project,” including its optional asset-copy behavior?

The published API documents creating projects and copying folders/files, but I cannot find a whole-project duplication endpoint. We need to preserve the same project-level settings as the GUI action and do not want to depend on a private endpoint.

If there is no public duplication endpoint, which project properties does the GUI duplicate, and which documented API calls reproduce that behavior?

I found the 2024 thread “Using Frame.io API to Copy a Project Folder,” where copying folders was suggested as a workaround. Is this still the supported approach in V4, or is there now an API equivalent of the web app’s Duplicate Project action?

Thanks,
Bart

Hi Bart (@wenneker)!

Copying the project’s folders into a new folder is still going to be the closest match to the behavior of duplicating a project via the web app. This will also copy the folders’ contents. There currently isn’t a way to copy the folder structure without its contents.

usually without copying assets.

Out of curiosity, is there something specific to your workflow that determines when a project’s assets should be copied over, vs. not?

As for copying a project’s settings, that may be something you can accomplish separately with the API, depending on which settings you’re referring to.

For example, if you’re referring to the project’s name and privacy setting (whether or not the project is restricted), you could chain a few calls together:

Hi Rosie,

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I can get what I need from chaining some things together.
Rather busy at the moment so it will take a few days before I will be able to try it.
